What this website does not do

This website uses no analytics, no advertising, no tracking cookies and no third-party scripts or fonts. All fonts, images and code are served from our own server.

If you switch between light and dark mode, that choice is saved only in your own browser (local storage). It is never sent to us. The same goes for the language you pick from the menu.

Hosting and connection data

The site is delivered through Cloudflare, which acts as our network provider. To deliver the pages, Cloudflare necessarily processes technical connection data such as your IP address. See Cloudflare’s privacy policy at cloudflare.com/privacypolicy.

Letters to your descendants

If you write a letter, we store: who it is addressed to, the text, the optional signature and year, the language of the page, the date, whether you chose to share it, its review status, and a scrambled (hashed) form of your private link. We do not ask for your name, e-mail address or any account.

We do not store your IP address. To prevent abuse, it is used only briefly in the server’s memory, in a scrambled form that changes every day, to limit how many letters can be sent in an hour.

Legal basis: we store your letter because you ask us to (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR). If you choose to share it on the public wall, we publish it based on your consent (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR) after a review by the site owner. You can withdraw your consent at any time by deleting the letter with your private link.

Retention: your letter is kept until you delete it, or until this website is shut down.

Please do not write sensitive personal details about yourself or other people in a letter, especially one you share publicly.

External links

Pages link to Wikipedia, scientific journals and other sites. When you follow such a link, the privacy policy of that site applies.

Your rights

You have the right to access, correct and delete your data, to restrict or object to processing, and to withdraw consent. You can delete a letter yourself at any time with your private link; for anything else, contact us at the address above. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection supervisory authority.
